Neustadt, Ontario is a small community with a population of around 550 residents about 2 hours and 15 minutes from Toronto. Neustadt is definitely worth a visit and has a few main attractions that I’ll outline below. You’ll definitely want to visit if you love beer and history.
Things To Do In Neustadt, Ontario
Local Shopping In Neustadt, ON
When you first drive into Neustadt, you’ll immediately notice the cute main street with a few local shops. The shops are in the most beautiful buildings with the character of years past. The old buildings are one of the things I love most about small towns.
Atelier 522
Atelier 522 is such a cute gift shop in Neustadt. This shop features a collection of European-inspired products and a great place to grab housewarming or wedding gifts.
Next up and right across the street from Atelier 522 is Neustadt Bear Antiques. This charming shop is a must-visit Ontario vintage shop for antique lovers. Of course it’s also in a beautiful building oozing with character.
Granny’s General Store
Granny’s General Store in Neustadt is exactly where you would expect it to be – right on the corner of the main intersection in town. What you first notice about this shop, if you visit in the summer, is that it’s bustling with flowers and other plants lined up along the street. Along with typical products found at general stores like groceries and candy, they also offer fresh baked goods and a selection of gifts. It’s definitely a one-stop shopping kind of place!
Neustadt Brewery
I included the Neustadt Springs Brewery in my best small town Ontario breweries guide. It’s definitely at the top of our list of breweries we love especially because it’s the oldest brewery in Ontario. The stone building is so unique and you can learn more about it here.
They have a small food menu available, a choice of approximately 10 different types of beer to choose from, with a few seasonal options. We were just there and they had their fall harvest pumpkin beer on tap. I usually opt for their raspberry lager. I was impressed to see they’ve also made flavoured sparkling waters. This is a great option if you’re the designated driver or you want an alcohol-free option. If you visit in the summer, their back patio is awesome!
Neustadt Brewery Tours
On the weekends, you can book a tour of the Neustadt Springs Brewery and see their caverns. This is definitely a really cool experience and another reason to make the trip to Neustadt, Ontario.
Allan Park
Allan Park is a public park owned and operated by Saugeen Conservation. It’s a beautiful park with over 10km of trails to explore. I’ve mountain biked at Allan Park and really enjoyed it but you can also go hiking, horseback riding, snowshoeing or cross-country skiing. There is a washroom on site.
Neustadt, Ontario is a great place visit on your next southern Ontario road trip.
