In this Torremolinos Spain travel guide, I’m going to walk you through the things that I love to do every winter when I’m in the Costa del Sol and would definitely recommend when visiting Torremolinos.
Things To Do In Torremolinos Spain
Visit Casa de los Navajas
Casa de los Navajas is an incredible house in Torremolinos that I recommend visiting. It’s stunning architecture, incredible tile work, beautiful gardens and grand stairway entry all make this worth a visit while you’re in Torremolinos, Spain. It’s free to visit and not far off the main beach promenade in Torremolinos so it’s really easy to get to. My Mom and I preferred exploring the outside grounds and architecture more than the inside but it’s still neat to check out the inside. They have a few rooms for art installations and you can head upstairs to explore a few more rooms. I would’ve loved to see how the inside of the house looked back in 1925!
The house was built in 1925 for the wealthy Luque-Navajas family. Now, it can be rented for weddings or events but is free to explore most days of the week. It’s also a great spot to take your own pictures and grab that Instagram worthy picture or simply enjoy the view from the upper balcony.
Walk Calle San Miguel – main shopping street
Torremolinos has a main shopping street on Calle San Miguel which is completely closed off to cars. They have lots of local shops that feature traditional Spanish products like leather belts, cork bags and espadrille and Gioseppo shoes. They also have cafes and restaurants mixed in. It’s a fun street to stroll. Remember that everything in Spain seems to be busier on Sundays. So if dodging people isn’t what you’re into or traveling with little kids who like to wander, it might be best to avoid going on Sundays, if possible.
Walk Paseo De Maritimo Beach Promenade / Punta de Torremolinos
One thing that Costa del Sol has going for it, especially in and around Torremolinos is the expansive beach promenades that connect towns along the coast. I definitely recommend heading for a walk along the Paseo De Maritimo and especially the Punta de Torremolinos / El Morro. The pathway meanders around rock cuts right along the Mediterranean sea and is really beautiful. This part of the promenade is a natural separation of the town and two of the most popular beaches – La Carihuela and Bajondillo. This particular spot my family and I have named ‘the cat corner’. At this corner, there is an abundance of adorable cats nestled in the rocks sleeping in the sun, or sitting quietly in the grass. If you’re a cat lover, you’ll love this section of the promenade. Keep your eyes peeled and make sure you look up high on the rock for cats too.
Walk along C. Cta. Del Tajo – walk way up from beach
This beautiful cobble stone street from the beach up to the main town square is something I definitely recommend. There are local shops and restaurants along the walk up so you can take your time getting to the top. Make sure you stop along the way and turn around to take in the view of the sea with clay roofs and depending on the time of year you visit, beautiful pink flowers. About half way up you’ll see the Torre de Pimentel which I’ll discuss below.
Torre de Pimentel
Torre de Pimentel is an important historic landmark to the town of Torremolinos. It’s actually where the name for the town originated. It was originally called Torre de los Molinos which means Tower Of The Mills. The name was later changed to honour a soldier, Rodrigo de Pimentel.
Enjoy the art installations near Pl. Costa del Sol
Another area that I really enjoy in Torremolinos is up at the main town square. There are some really unique art installations like the wavy metal structure shown below. I personally love this particular section of the street and make sure I go to see it every winter I’m in Spain. This street is also closed to cars so there are often people playing music or dancing. There are lots of restaurants in and around this area as well.
Walk through Camino De La Playa down to beach
Another beautiful walk down to the beach is through the Camino de la Playa. This walkway takes you down to the ****beach. About half way down you’ll see an above ground Spanish cemetery. If you continue along the path, the views of the sea are incredible. It’s a really lovely walk down to the beach. These are the bright pink flowers I mentioned above.
